MINISTRY PRAYER REQUESTS November 2017

Greetings,

It seems time speeds up and has no mercy in slowing down. When I look at the calendar it seems what seemed like one month was two months.

It is a challenge to see the many administrative tasks related to the operational side of SOCPM that are delayed in favor of the administrative tasks related to the actual ministry; classroom preparation for 5 classes, record keeping, responding to student request for fathering and or doctrinal/theological questions.

It is a challenge but I am forever grateful for the call to steward SOCPM, hopefully to God's glory. All which would not be done without your prayers of support.  Thank you!

To Him be the glory,

Scott Kalas

Prayers of Praise

Recent nuclear stress test for heart came back with no concerns.

Connected with a prison ministry that goes into Newton County Jail (See Cameron below)

Bittersweet praise; Malachi Dads at Sheridan has become a 'hot' class. As the start of 4th quarter class (October 29), 39 dads are on the waitlist.

I was reunited with one of my former Sheridan students, JD, who is now discharged, walking solidly with the Lord. Though he lives in the city he expressed a desire to visit my church Redeemer Fellowship. A November 3rd date has been set.

James a student in Sheridan's Malachi Dads and Discipleship evening classes recently expressed his coming to faith through the discipleship of SOCPM.

A past visit to our mechanic and an inspection on Michelle's Saturn found the bottom of the car rusting where it resulted in the exhaust pipe to rest on the gas tank, made of plastic. Praise God, it was discovered before a tragic accident.  However, the mechanic found other issues where the cost would not be worth the value of the car and he advised we replace the car ASAP. Praise God, He provided in leading us to a 2015 Subaru where monthly payments are doable.

Prayers of Supplication

A very long story in regards to Cameron, but his latest relapse journey has him incarcerated at Newton County Jail in Covington, GA. He is facing 1 - 5 years of incarceration. Though no parent takes joy in a child's incarceration I believe it is best for Cameron and his addiction issues. Please pray that Cameron gets a minimum of 1 year. Pray that God will use the incarceration to fully get a hold of Cameron's heart and bring him to salvation. Pray that Cameron hits his bottom and takes full accountability for his situation and full responsibility in facing the consequences and not look to anyone to rescue him.

Pray for his mother Anne Marie and me to remain strong in our not wanting to rescue Cameron and or provide finances to lessen his burden of being incarcerated.

The Chaplin at Sheridan has been challenged with the many tasks and relationships with peers. Please pray that God will bring stability in her role as chaplain.

The Chaplain at Dixon has some health issues that are causing physical complications. Please pray for him in overcoming these physical ailments.

Please pray I can give time to fundraising, and be successful in achieving enough monthly support to pay myself a $1,500 monthly salary.

Michelle and I would very much like to move and rent a home that has no stairs. The three flights of stairs in our condo are very hard on Michelle's knees. However, there are many obstacles and or challenges to moving. Our current home is underwater, selling it would be too heavy of a loss to bear. Pray that through the fundraising I will be able to pay myself a salary to supplement personal finances enough to cover the mortgage on the condo if sits empty due to no renters. Also, my car has 250k+ miles and recently needed nearly 2k in repairs and still needs another 1k in non-urgent repairs. We very much like to replace that car. It is our hope my ministry salary could also allow us to make another car payment.

Continued development of church partners and other post-prison ministries.

Wisdom in SOCPM expanding into county jails. Pray the Sheriffs of either DeKalb, Kane, or Kendall will see a benefit in one of the various curriculum SOCPM will offer. Additionally, pray that SOCPM can raise up volunteers to assist me in the actual serving.

MINISTRY PRAYER REQUESTS August 2017

Greetings,

My prostate surgery has taken a heavy toll than expected but I' thankful that I had medical care available to bring healing and recovery.
Deep heartfelt thanks for all who prayed for my healing.

If you are not currently an SOCPM financial partner please pray about becoming one. See the end of the newsletter on how you can.

Prayers of Praise

I'm doing better in my recovering from prostate surgery that I'm able to return to active prison ministry.

I don't know the number of days, but Cameron has not had any relapses.

Have successfully connected several paroling students to churches.

Moody Bible has agreed to supply with copies of 'The Parables of Jesus'  by James Montgomery Boice for SOCPM students who successfully complete the current Discipleship class 'The Parables of Jesus' by R. C. Sproul.

I was reunited with one of my former Sheridan students, Jesse, who is now discharged, walking solidly with the Lord and is a volunteer with Mission USA a prison ministry in Chicago.

Prayers of Supplication

My son Cameron's salvation and sobriety.

That Michelle's and I don't have any further health issue.

I've been told by the Chaplin at Sheridan that correctional officers have been holding SOCPM students and other inmates from attending programs even though they have valid passes. This issue has been addressed to the warden's office. Please pray that action is taken to stop the correctional officers from not allowing inmates to attend programs

Please pray I can give time to fund raising, and be successful in achieving to raise enough monthly support to pay myself a $1,500 monthly salary.

Continued development of church partners and other post prison ministries.

Wisdom on the next curriculum for Discipleship

How to better use and the development of social media

With my recent health issues it has brought on times of depression, has delayed some planned ministry development and fund raising. Please pray I can adjust priorities and get some counsel in decisions related to ministry development and overcome depressions and have an abundance of energy and motivation.

MINISTRY PRAYER REQUESTS March 2017

Greetings,

A busy but fruitful two months of 2017 and looking very much forward to God's bearing of Fruit for His glory in the coming months. Your prayers were and will be the means in harvesting the Fruit.

A deep heartfelt thanks!!!

Prayers of Praise

Michelle continues to heal from her January 3rd stroke and plans to return to work April 10th.

I don't know the number of days, but Cameron has not had any relapses.

By the students involvement with questions and the lack of side talking the Discipleship ('Holiness of God' and 'The Assurance of Salvation') classes were fruitful. Numerous request on more info on how they can confirm their professing Christ is a profession with a true salvation (2 Peter 1:10). Prayers of praise that the Holy Spirit has put a desire for the students to ask if they have a saving faith.

Having completed Psalm 1, book one of Malachi Dads and at the midway point of 'The Heart of a Father,' the 2nd book or four in Malachi Dads, it has been thus far very fruitful. Classes on average are 10 - 12 weeks and have a dropout rate of 20%. 13 weeks into Malachi Dads the dropout is just under 10%. Pierre, a student who claims to be a Muslim, has missed only one class. Overall attendance of 86% is one of the highest if not thee highest rates after 10 - 12 weeks. Prayers of praise for high attendance and that the Holy Spirit open Pierre's heart with the Gospel.

Malachi Dads has been given the go ahead to begin in Dixon on March 29th.

After a meeting with the former Director of Lifespring to discuss keys in to successful fund raising, I left very encouraged with new approaches and improvement of current presentation.

After a meeting with the Elders of my church Redeemer Fellowship I again walked away encouraged by their support of SOCPM and how they can come along side me in all the responsibilities of stewarding SOCPM.

Prayers of Supplication

With Michelle planning to return to work April 10th, please pray for her continue to improve, specifically in her typing skills. Also, pray for her ongoing struggles with rheumatoid arthritis. Also, pray that her client (just outside of Cleveland) will allow her to continue working from home weekly.

I'll be going on a retreat March 13 - 16 to seek God's will for SOCPM for the next year. Please pray that I remain focused while in prayer and Bible study and indeed will here God's will and in my stewarding of SOCPM.

Due to my recent digestion issues I am schedule for a colonoscopy March 20th. Please pray the test are negative of anything requiring surgery or other evasive treatment.

I'm scheduled to have a CMG, a test that examines the kidneys, March 23rd. It's been postponed 3 times previously for one reason or another. The results of the test will be a major factor in my having prostate surgery. Please pray that the test will not be postponed again and that when I and Michelle consult with the urologist that we ask the right questions and have discernment in the decision to have or not have the surgery.

Please pray that the encouragement I walked away with from my two meetings bears fruit in glorifying of God (ministry support; prayer and financially, ministry volunteers, and ministry expansion).

I'll be attending the Ligonier 2017 National Conference March 8 - 12. Please pray for my hopes of connecting with new ministry partners to provide curriculum and other ministry resources.

Please pray for the Malachi Dads program and the next Discipleship curriculum 'Sermon on the Mount' to bear fruit in the students lives.

For reason I can't explain the number of weekly prayer requests submitted by the students has dropped significantly. Please pray that God the Holy Spirit will convey through me to the students the power of prayer and their need for prayer.

MINISTRY PRAYER REQUESTS - January 2017

Greetings,

To say the need for prayer is plenty is an understatement. Truly, need your prayers.

Prayers of Praise

My son Cameron is back on the track of sobriety.and is working and though not a Christian therapist as best I know he is getting therapy an answer to last November's ministry prayer request.

As I write this I'm at Central DuPage Hospital, after my wife Michelle suffered a hemorrhagic stroke January 3rd. Prayers of praise it was caught early and the bleeding was minimal and on the surface of the brain. Additionally we were blessed with great medical care.

A prayer of praise for my own health. An emergency hospitalization for an abdominal obstruction in early December brought to my attention other health issues that if not diagnosed could have resulted in a permanent disability. A subsequent MRI of my prostate showed no indications of cancer.

The team of from Harvest who SOCPM has assisted in implementing a men's program "Stepping Up" have had the team members approved and will begin Stepping Up January 7th.

Prayers of Supplication

My son Cameron's continued sobriety but most important of all his salvation. Pray God will have compassion and mercy on him.

I don't mean to make this sound like a medical prayer request versus a prison ministry prayer request but both Michelle and I have had recent health issues that will require rehabilitation including possible surgery for myself. Please pray for complete recovery and healing in our health.

Please pray for the "Stepping Up" team Kent, Ken, Dick, and Steve. In having met and served with the team is a blessing to see a group of men with a great passion for serving God in the prisons.

Please pray for Steve who in addition to being a team member in 'Stepping Up' has been called to lead Wayside Cross' New Life Corrections. He has a challenge in following in the leadership footsteps of Tom Beatty who went home to be with Jesus last September.

Please pray for SOCPM's continued teaching of Malachi Dads and the next to teaching series in Discipleship, Fear and Trembling and The Assurance of Salvation. Please pray for the students who will be attending.

For reasons I can't fully understand the Chaplain at Dixon (not the same chaplain in the same prayer request a couple of years ago) has asked me not to bring in monthly devotionals. He claims they receive enough through other sources. The students, however, have told me they are getting 'In Touch' and I'm okay of withholding those, but my students are still asking for Our Daily Bread, Today in the Word and Tabletalk. I'm not aware of any other ministry or Ligonier Ministries, publishers of Tabletalk, bringing or sending Tabletalk into Dixon. I can respect not having unwanted copies lying around, but what the men don't take I bring home with me. Please pray the chaplain will reconsider my bring in these monthly magazines.

Please pray for SOCPM volunteers in administrative roles; critiquing my fundraising presentations, the writing and or proofreading of the Barbed Wire newsletter to lessen the delay of publishing, someone with Filemaker dB software skills to get the full power of the software and that God will reveal other areas I can delegate lessening my administrative workload.

Please pray for discernment in how God may be calling SOCPM to new areas of ministry opportunities (pastoral visits and teaching classes in county jails or other areas).

Please pray for my overall stewarding of SOCPM to God's glory. The managing of my time for preparing weekly classes, developing church partnerships, fundraising, and other administrative tasks has been very challenging Especially with Michelle's and my health issues. There are times I feel simply overwhelmed, and I'm not stewarding SOCPM to God's glory.

MINISTRY PRAYER REQUESTS - November 2016

Greetings,
I hope all of you are enjoying the Fall weather. It is hard to believe it is November.

I had hoped to get this ministry prayer request out earlier, but the months have been flying by.
Michelle and I were blessed with a much need rest in August. Both agreeing not to do anything related to work or ministry. We spent a few days visiting Michelle's and step-mother in Sayward, BC. Followed by a few days in Seattle.

To Him be the glory,

Scott Kalas

Through SOCPM's church partnerships, two recently paroled SOCPM students already had a home church. Joseph an SOCPM student since 12/2013 was connected to Charis in Normal, IL in 10/2014 and has had communication with them off and on. Anthony another SOCPM student since 01/2016 was connected with Living Stones in Rockford, IL in 02/2016. Anthony who after being connected stated, This is the fist time I have hope when my parole comes. Pastor Jeremiah Griffen told me Anthony contacted him the fist day of his parole. Prayers of praise that God provided these men with a church.

SOCPM has partnered with Awana Lifeline tobegin teaching Malachi Dads as the new curriculum, replacing InsideOut Dad in SOCPM's Christian Living:Fatherhood program. Malachi Dads is a program that originated at Louisiana State Penitentiary aka Angola and since has been implemented in numerous prisons throughout the US.

SOCPM students continue to praise SOCPM's discipleship curriculum. David shared that as a life-long Christian 'Exploring the Holy Spirit' was the best teaching he ever had on the Holy Spirit. Joseph, mentioned above, said he has never received the in-depth teaching, he received as an SOCPM student. Prayers praise as God brings forth the in-depth curriculum and the Holy Spirit continues to use SOCPM as a vessel in glorifying God.

My son Cameron is back in treatment after relapsing with nearly nine months sobriety. Pray for his salvation and sobriety. Pray God will have compassion and mercy on him. Pray he get long term counseling and by God's providence, it would be a Christian counselor.

In a recent conversation with a staff person at Dixon, he indirectly stated how he doesn't care for volunteers who come in and teach doctrine. Teaching sound theology and doctrine is the ministry of SOCPM (Romans 16:7; 1 Timothy 6:3-5, 20; 2 Timothy 1:13, 2:15, 4:2-4; Titus 1:9, 2:1). Please pray that nothing or no one would interfere with SOCPM fulfilling the ministry of SOCPM (2 Timothy 4:5).

SOCPM will begin the aforementioned Malachi Dads and the three-part Discipleship curriculum, The Holiness of God, Fear and Trembling and The Assurance of Salvation. Please pray for the students who will be attending.

Please pray for continued growth in church partnerships not only in the Rockford area but also Chicago where the largest percentage of SOCPM students parole to and downstate. Blessing other men as God blessed Joseph and Anthony.

I'm auditing an online course in hermeneutics through Reformed Baptist Seminary but because of reoccurring unexpected issues I'm having a very difficult time to find the time to audit. Please pray I can find the time to audit and when auditing that I'm able to fully comprehend, retain, apply and teach all I learn.

Please pray for discernment in whether God is may be calling SOCPM to new areas of ministry opportunities.

SOCPM was asked by a team ofmen from Harvest Bible to assist in starting up a weekly Saturday Bible study at Dixon. Please pray for that the men who enroll are seriously seeking lives to glorify God.

Please pray for both Michelle's and my health issues.

Please pray for my overall stewarding of SOCPM to God's glory.

MINISTRY PRAYER REQUESTS - June 2016

Greetings,

In the midst of the 2nd term 2016 classes with continued challenges in the enrolling of students and there getting the passes and approvals to attend class when they are enrolled.

Trying to maintain everything as husband, father and steward of SOCPM has been challenging in the prioritizing and strategizing with out becoming overwhelmed and having lost of energy and then lost of motivation is an area I strongly need your prayers.
To Him be the glory,

Scott Kalas

Prayers of Praise

In my phone conversation with Chris Hunsberger Executive Director of Radical has agreed to partner with SOCPM to provide resources Radical's featured source library as resources from Secret Church providing and an extensive library of teaching curriculum as SOCPM seeks to expand it's teaching base into county jails and other facilities in IDOC.

SOCPM has connected with Mike Broyels Executive Director of Awana Lifeline to use their new Malachi Dads curriculum in IDOC and county jails.

Randy Jahns of Crossway blessed SOCPM with 33 copies of ESV Study Bibles for distribution in Dixon Correctional Center. Many of these Bibles were high quality leather bound. Dixon will distribute them to men who have shown a sincere and strong desire to grow in their knowledge of God's Word.

Through SOCPM's existing church partnership Living Stones in Rockford, IL, I met with the new John Evans Executive Director of Rockford Reachout and discussed numerous ways to partnerin serving Gods Kingdom for men paroling to Winnebago County and or entering IDOC from Winnebago County.

I was able to connect with another pastor Adron Robinson of Hillcrest Baptist Church in County Club Hills who agreed to welcome paroled SOCPM students to his church. Curtis a current student in Sheridan's evening discipleship class has already connected with Hillcrest.

My son Cameron has completed 130+ days of sobriety, and continues to work at Chipolte and as a resident assistance in the halfway house where is living

Prayers of Supplication

Pray for my son Cameron's salvation and continued sobriety. If he maintains six month of sobriety he has the possibility to work in a local detox center as a counselor to others seeking sobriety. He also is He is also investigating employment at Phoenix Children's Hospital where he will bring meals and friendship to the children. Cameron even as young boy exhibited a heart for children with health and leaning disabilities. Pray God will draw Cameron closer to Him each day giving Cameron guidance in his next steps to salvation, a lifetime of sobriety and will do a great transforming work in Cameron's heart, soul and mind that someday Cameron will have a God glorifying testimony.

Please pray for a prison ministry colleague and friend Tom, whose been diagnosed with stage four cancer. Please pray for comfort for him and his wife Laurie and reconciliation among various relationships within the family and the reconciliation of family and loved ones with God.

A new head warden has been assigned to Sheridan Correctional Center. I've met him previously and he is a believer. Please pray that I'll have an opportunity to meet with him and together we can discern God's will in how to best serve God's Kingdom in Sheridan.

A new head wardenhas been assigned to Dixon Correctional Center. I've not met him but ask for prayers that he is open to Christian programming any my meeting with him.

I'll be joining a gathering of pastors from Rockford, IL area June 7th. Please pray this will lead to more church partnerships for SOCPM students paroling to and or who has family members in the Rockford, IL area.

I continue to seek God's will in my enrolling in Reformed Baptist Seminary or similar program of theological studies. I'm struggling with my ability to dedicate the time that will be required and my ability to fully comprehend the course material. I've never been a great student and now at the age of 60 I'm struggling with the potential challenges.

I'm in great need of volunteers in administrative roles; critiquing my fund raising presentations, the writing of the Barbed Wire newsletter, someone with Filemaker db software skills to get the full power of the software and that God will reveal other areas I can delegate lessening my administrative workload.

I'm planning to attend a meeting with Christian Business Fellowship in July seeking to partner with Christian business owners who would be willing to employ paroled SOCPM students. Please pray I'll be able to make the scheduled meeting and be warmly received by a good number of Christian Business owners.

I'm also planning to connect with Christian Business Men's Connect a national organization of Christian business owners with a number of chapters in the Chicagoland area. Please pray I can connect with one or more of these chapters to also partner with Christian Business owners willing to employ paroling SOCPM students.

As you have read there seems to be a lot of potential opportunities in SOCPM serving the Kingdom. My deepest desire is to steward SOCPM well. Please pray I trust in God and not myself in making it all happen by my discerning what God's will is in what to pursue and my being continuous in motivation and trusting God. To be open to all that God is calling me to do in my stewardship. An area that might come about is my stepping down in some capacity of my current teaching workload. An area I'd truly struggle with if it were to be God's will as I've come to truly love my interaction and forming relationships with the men.

MINISTRY PRAYER REQUESTS - May 2016

Greetings,

The 2nd term 2016 classes are scheduled to begin the first week of May I'll again be teaching Renewing Fatherhood in both Dixon and Sheridan. The Discipleship will consists of two curriculum "What Did Jesus Do?: Understanding the Work of Christ" a 12 part teaching by Ligonier Ministry's Founder R. C. Sproul and "The Cross of Christ" a four part teachingby Secret Church's David Platt.

SOCPM is seeking God's blessing in current pursuits of ministry expansion and discernment on other areas of ministry, which I truly seek your prayers.

To Him be the glory,

Scott Kalas

Soldiers of Christ Prison Ministries

Prayers of Praise

I met the Executive Director of Radical at the T4G 2016 conference. He is eager to see how Radical can provide SOCPM with resources to teach in the jails and prisons. We have a phone call scheduled for May 10th.

SOCPM was blessed with financial resources to purchase 110 copies of 'Holiness of God" and 10 copies of "Chosen by God" from Ligonier Ministries as gift books for the graduating students of the just completed discipleship classes.

JD a long time SOCPM student shared it was while reading of "Holiness of God" (he received a copy in a previous class) that he came to know that he was a true sinner in need of Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

My son Cameron has completed 90+ days of sobriety, working at Chipoltes and working the resident assistance desk in the halfway house where is living and receives free rent as compensation.

Clarence a current SOCPM student asked for help in getting his family and eventually himself connected to a church in the Rockford area. Pastor Jeremiah Griffen of Living Stones Church in Rockford, IL, whom I met at February's Plant Midwes has agreed to contact Clarence.

Prayers of Supplication

For my son Cameron's salvation and continued sobriety. If he maintains six month of sobriety he has the possibility to work in a local detox center as a counselor to others seeking sobriety. He has expressed a desire to be a drug counselor and this would be a big step in that direction prior to his beginning schooling in this area. Pray God will draw Cameron closer to Him each day and will do a great transforming work in Cameron's heart, soul and mind that someday Cameron will have a God glorifying testimony and to share his testimony in to others in detox and someday as a certified drug counselor .

I've inquired to Dixon about the possibility of my doing pastoral counsel. This typically is not allowed for a volunteer but there are exceptions. Please pray that my being an ordained minister of the Gospel will allow me to seen as an exception allowing pastoral counsel. The need is overwhelming.

Regardless of Dixon's decision I'm planning to pursue pastoral counseling in local county jails. Please pray for my knowing God's will and my obedience to His will.

I'm also seeking God's in my enrolling in Reformed Baptist Theological Seminary and take several online courses; hermeneutics, Introduction to OT and NT and OT & NT theology. These courses will be of great benefit in my own personal growth of knowing God's Word but also in my desire to do pastoral counseling.

I've also approached Dixon about presenting 1 or 2 day seminars on topics strongly focused on Christian living. I've had one individual already approach me about the possibility of volunteering.

I'm in great need of volunteers in administrative roles; critiquing my fund raising presentations, the writing of the Barbed Wire newsletter, someone with Filemaker db software skills to get the full power of the software. God will reveal other areas I can delegate lessening my administrative workload.

I will be making a request for pastors to come forward at Plant Midwest Chicago May 2nd. Pray God will bring forth pastors from solid Bible teaching churches to partner with SOCPM in welcoming paroled SOCPM students into their church family.

In addition to seeking partnership with churches I'm working getting connected to a couple of Christian business men associations with the objective of forming partnerships with Christian business owners willing to employ paroled SOCPM students.

MINISTRY PRAYER REQUESTS - February 2016

Greetings,

The 1st term 2016 classes are underway. As always good to see the many returning students and meeting new students. Unfortunately, half of all the enrolled students are actually making it to class.

IDOC's new computer system that was the cause of a week lockdown back in early December is still not functionally properly, resulting in only half of the passes being printed. Those I've been working with have been very helpful and cooperative in trying to minimize the fallout but about 40% of the students are getting passes.

I'm thankful that I only have to endure the frustration of my one day at Dixon and one day at Sheridan, whereas Dixon and Sheridan staff had to endure the frustrations daily.
To Him be the glory,

Scott Kalas
Founder/Steward
Soldiers of Christ Prison Ministries

Prayers of Praise

SOCPM has been given clearance from IDOC to recommend churches to paroling SOCPM students.

SOCPM attended Plant Midwest on February 1st. Plant Midwest meets quarterly to encourage and equip churches in the Chicagoland. I was briefly introduced and approached by a few pastors. I shared with one pastor from Rockford that a current SOCPM student will be paroling later this month to Rockford. He willing to welcome him to the church and feels he can help him get a job too.

SOCPM was blessed with financial resources to purchase 40 copies of 'Inside Out Dad Christian' the workbook used in Renewing Fatherhood.

All total 180 students registered for the five classes SOCPM is offering at Dion and Sheridan for 2016 1st term.

A last minute addition. My son Cameron was admitted to a 30-day inpatient program that is followed up by a 90-day halfway house program.

Prayers of Supplication

For my son Cameron's salvation. Pray God will draw Cameron closer to Him each day and will do a great transforming work in Cameron's heart, soul and mind that someday Cameron will have a God glorifying testimony.

Pray that Cameron's current inpatient program is the first step to an eternal sobriety.

That God will draw close and grant mercy to those students who are not saved.

I'm not getting all the potential and benefits with my limited skill set in db design and Filemaker. Please pray God will bring forth a person with experience in both the design and use of Filemaker.

A God glorifying relationship with staff in Illinois Department of Corrections.

For God to bring forth church partnerships with solid Bible teaching churches to partner with SOCPM in welcoming paroled SOCPM students into their church family.

God will increase my faith and trust in Him to raise the monthly support from individuals, churches and businesses to cover increased ministry expenses including the funds to still pay myself a small salary when the financial reserve is depleted.

Faith, wisdom and organization in my preparation of the 2016 2nd term discipleship course 'A Soldier's Call to Know the Works of Jesus Christ' scheduled for a late April early May start.

Through SOCPM's partnership with Sycamore Baptist I'm planning to teach a series of messages on spiritual disciplines. Pray God will bless my teachings and it will be used for His glory in maturing the men of DeKalb County Jail in their faith.

That I personally continue to grow in my knowledge of God's Word to glorify Him personally, but that I will teach others what has been entrusted to me all for the glory of God.

MINISTRY PRAYER REQUESTS - DECEMBER 2015

Greetings,

I'm always seeking to know if I'm in God's will in my stewardship of SOCPM especially when it comes to the courses being taught. In lesson two of R. C. Sproul's teaching series "Prayer" he mentions two items specifically. Praying the Psalms and reading the Bible with an objective of know the attributes of God.

SOCPM just completed teaching from the book 'Praying the Bible' by James and Joel Beeke which has a major emphasis in praying the Psalms. The next discipleship class being taught by SOCPM come January 2016 is 'The Attributes of God' a Ligonier teaching series by Steven Lawson.

Coincidence? Perhaps the evil one is saying it was, but I prefer to believe it was God confirming SOCPM is indeed in His will.

To Him be the glory,

Scott Kalas
Founder/Steward
Soldiers of Christ Prison Ministries

Prayers of Praise

SOCPM was blessed with financial resources to purchase 107 copies of   'Developing A Healthy Prayer Life' by James and Joel Beeke as gift books to the graduating SOCPM Discipleship students of 'A Soldier's Call to Know How to Pray'.

124 students are scheduled to receive certificates fro completing SOCPM classes this term.

On December 6th I gave a message to inmates at DeKalb County Jail on repentance based on 'The Five Marks of Repentance' a publication by J. C. Ryle. I truly felt the Holy Spirit used it to mold the hearts and minds of the inmates to come to a knowledge that salvation involves repentance and is not simply truing over a new leaf in life.

Prayers of Supplication

For my son Cameron's salvation. Pray God will draw Cameron closer to Him each day and will do a great transforming work in Cameron's heart, soul and mind that someday Cameron will have a God glorifying testimony. His continued sobriety and finding peace in is day to day activities.

That God will draw close and grant mercy to those students who are not saved.

A request from Dixon for copies for NKJV study Bibles. Please pray for a gift to SOCPM or financial resources to by at minimum a case of them.

I've submitted several curricula topics as possible 1 or 2 days seminars to the Assistant Warden of Programs Cameron at Dixon after doing so I unexpectedly met the IDOC's Deputy Director Northern District Gomez and expressed my hopes of presenting these seminars. He plans to talk with Dixon AWP Cameron and Sheridan Warden Robinson about the seminars. Please pray they will see the need and ask me to start developing a plan to present the seminars.

I submitted a request to Chaplain Toney of Louisiana State Prison aka Angola on partnering with SOCPM in the developing course material using existing curricula and the wisdom and experience of Angola's inmate pastors to develop the presentation towards the life of prisoners.

I'm looking to develop report queries, additional dB tables and review and as needed redesigning the user interface to SOCPM db. However my skill sets are limited in dB design as are my skills in the database software Filemaker software. Filemaker is very versatile software package but I'm not getting all the potential and benefits with my limited skill set in db design and Filemaker. Please pray God will bring forth a person with experience in both the design and use of Filemaker.

A God glorifying relationship with staff in Illinois Department of Corrections.

Develop partnerships that God will bring forth a number of solid Bible teaching churches to partner with SOCPM building a wide range network throughout the state of Illinois to bless and be a vessel in the sanctification of paroling SOCPM students.

God will increase my faith and trust in Him to raise the monthly support from individuals, churches and businesses to cover increased ministry expenses including the funds to still pay myself a small salary when the financial reserve is depleted.

Faith, wisdom and organization in my preparation of the new discipleship course 'A Soldier's Call to Know the Attributes of God' starting January 2016.

The DVD player purchased by SOCPM for Sheridan has not been found. The cost was under $40 and I could really use one and am thinking of purchasing another one. Please pray for discernment if it is worth doing so and if I do it will be actually delivered and put in place in the conference room. fro SOCPM's use.

That SOCPM through it's partnership with Sycamore Baptist will find a means in addition to preaching the first Sunday of the month, to start teaching SOCPM classes in DeKalb County Jail and or start pastoral visits with the inmates.

That I personally continue to grow in my knowledge of God's Word to glorify Him personally, but that I will teach others what has been entrusted to me all for the glory of God.

If not a current SOCPM ministry partner please prayerfully consider on how you can help SOCPM equip inmates to be men of God and to respond to the charge to be a Soldier of Christ.

MINISTRY PRAYER REQUESTS - NOVEMBER 2015

Greetings,

An area of discipline that I need growth is the sending of ministry prayer requests on a regular basis. One reason is simple forgetfulness but not also overwhelming the subscribers to SOCPM e-mailings.

I won't detain you with more words but ask you to pray.

To Him be the glory,

Scott Kalas
Founder/Steward

Prayers of Praise

Michelle's leg fracture is healed and she was released from the doctor's care ending her short term disability and God has already blessed her with a new client Cleveland Clinic. She started November 17th.

SOCPM is now an official ministry of Redeemer Fellowship.

SOCPM has partnered with Sycamore Baptist Church in Sycamore, IL to preach the first Sunday of the month. The first message was in October.

It was a blessing of God's provision through Joe & Janet Jones & Tyndale House Publishers that Dixon's SOCPM students graduating from Discipleship "A Soldier's Call to Study the Bible" received a copy of Our Daily Bread Devotional Bibles published by Tyndale House.

Prayers of praise for the men who were recognized by receiving certificates for completing SOCPM classes the past two terms. 68 men for 'A Soldier's Call to Unlock the Bible.' 76 men for 'A Soldier's Call to Know How to Study the Bible' and 52men for 'A Soldier's Call to Renewing Fatherhood.'

Through generous giving and stewarding of those gifts, I've accumulated a little cushion in SOCPM's finances to start paying myself a salary of $200/month. This in return allowed me to quit my janitorial job and giving me the ability to travel downstate again and or other events that conflicted with my janitorial hours.

One of the first blessings of the additional hours is my being able to attended the quarterly meetings of Plant Midwest's Chicago region, whose mission is to plant solid Bible teaching churches.  By attending these quarterly meetings I hope to partner with a number of churches who are willing to accept paroling SOCPM students in to their church families.

To know Gods will in my pursuing to teach one or two day seminars at Sheridan and Dixon and possibly other IDOC facilities and or preach a message at Dixon or Sheridan on a reoccurring basis.

Wisdom and discernment on how to schedule SOCPM e-mailings mailings so as not be a disturbance to those who are subscribers.

The DVD player purchased by SOCPM for Sheridan made its way into the facility in June but has not found its way to the conference room for class use despite the efforts of Chaplain Phillips to locate it. Please pray the DVD will find its way to the conference room for future classes.

That SOCPM through it's partnership with Sycamore Baptist will find a means in addition to preaching the first Sunday of the month, to start teaching SOCPM classes in DeKalb County Jail and or start pastoral visits with the inmates.

SOCPM is looking to give the graduating students of 'A Soldier's Call to Pray' a copy of'Developing A Healthy Prayer Life' by James and Joel Beeke as gift books. Please pray God will provide the financial means.

That I personally continue to grow in my knowledge of God's Word to glorify Him personally, but that I will teach others what has been entrusted to me all for the glory of God.
