A Soldier of Christ…
· Is not ashamed of the Gospel.
· Is to answer his holy calling, for God’s purpose and grace
· Is to suffer for the Gospel through the power of God willingly.
· Is to guard the Gospel.
A Call to Faithfulness
2 Timothy 1:13–18
A Soldier of Christ...
· Is to follow the solid pattern of God’s Word.
· Is by the Holy Spirit guard the good deposit entrusted to him
· Is to ask for the Lord’s mercy on those who refresh him
The Character of a Soldier of Christ
2 Timothy 2:1–26
A Soldier of Christ is Strong
2 Timothy 2:1-2
· He is to be strengthened by the grace that is in Jesus Christ.
· He is to entrust the Gospel to faithful men who can teach others.
A Soldier of Christ is Single-Minded
2 Timothy 2:3-4
· He is to suffer hardship
· He is not to get entangled in the things of the world
· He is to please the One who enlisted him.
A Soldier of Christ is Strict
· He is to compete according to the rules.
· He is to be hard-working.
· He is to think over what his mentor says, and the Lord will give him understanding in everything.
· He is to Jesus Christ risen from the dead.
· He is to suffer hardship, even imprisonment, but know that God’s Word cannot be bound.
· He is to endure all things for the elect so that they may obtain salvation.
A Soldier of Christ is Secure
2 Timothy 2:11-13
· He is to trust in the truth that those who die with Him will live with Him.
· He is to trust in the truth that those who endure will reign with Him.
· He is to trust in the truth that those who deny Him, He will deny them.
· He is to trust in the truth that those who are faithless, He will remain faithful.
· He is to trust in the truth; He will not deny Himself.
A Soldier of Christ is Sound of Faith
2 Timothy 2:14-19
· He is not to quarrel about words.
· He is to present himself to God as an approved worker, rightfully handling the Word of God.
A Soldier of Christ is Sanctified
2 Timothy 2:20-23
· He is to cleanse himself from what is dishonorable.
· He is to flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord with a pure heart.
· He is to refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels
A Soldier of Christ is a Servant
2 Timothy 2:24-26
· He is not to be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach patiently enduring evil.
· He is with gentleness to correct those who are in opposition.
The Caution for a Soldier of Christ
The Perils of Apostasy
2 Timothy 3:1-9
· He is to understand that there will be times of difficulty in the last days.
· He is to understand that men will be lovers of sinful pleasures rather than the lovers of God.
The Protection of Apostasy
2 Timothy 3:10-17
· He is to follow Paul’s teaching, conduct, aim in life, patience, love, and steadfastness.
· He is to understand that those who live a godly life in Christ Jesus will encounter persecution.
· He is to understand that evil people and imposters will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.
· He is to be acquainted with Scripture, making him wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
· He is to know all Scripture breathed out by God is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and training in righteousness.
· He is to know the Scripture will equip him for every good work.
The Charge to a Soldier of Christ
2 Timothy 4:1-5
· He is solemnly charged in the presence of God in Christ Jesus.
· He is to preach the word and be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.
· He is to know it will be a time and sound doctrine but to have their ears tickled will cumulate teachers according to their desires.
· He is to be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the workout of an evangelist, fulfill his ministry.
The Comfort of a Solder of Christ
2 Timothy 4:6-18
Have a Good Finish to Life
2 Timothy 4:6-7
· He is to have fought the good fight.
· He is to have finished the race.
· He is to have kept the course
· He is to have kept the faith.
A Good Future After Life
2 Timothy 4:8
· He is to know laid up for him is the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge to him on that, will reward not only him but to all who loved His appearing.
